I was hired mainly to find ways to reduce costs. One area that seems vast to me is cloud storage and how to improve the management of cloud data (which we treat as an asset) in ways that will reduce costs.
Google, AWS, Box, OneDrive - Have you found any good resources, articles (or perhaps you have your own experience) around reducing cloud spend?

Create a data retention policy that both right sizes your storage needs and protects more sensitive data that provides governance over your spend. Review ISO Standard 27001 (section 8.10, I had to look it up). Data should only be kept so long as it is useful to the organization. Once you have a good governance policy set metrics to report out savings when data has reached retention limits. Some other savings potential could be within the type of storage or availability of the storage. For example HA (High availability) storage with fail overs, redundancies and more will come at a premium. Lastly do you chargeback for the storage? If not those who consume it just to have it around won’t feel any need to reduce. Without targeting them directly a good governance policy with retention limits and possibly chargeback or at least show back should help you get this in good shape.
Hope this helps
