From an ITAM governance perspective, the asset teams can’t find some laptops. How do you escalate without chasing endlessly?
Do they have a discovery tool in place? Check to see when it was last scanned and who logged in (if your tool has those capabilities). If you know the device names partner with your folks in security or patch management who should be touching those devices on a regular basis. Again start with last known users or location. Then start inquires, I’ve always felt we’re part detectives in the ITAM space.
You can also impose support fees to drive ownership or assign a custodian by department to help you maintain the whereabouts of the company assets. (if you can put such policies in place) Hardware might seem valuable to some once the asset ages but certainly what is on them should be considered as such.
Hope that helps
