How long shall we keep hardware equipement data in our ITAM tool?

Hello,

I was wondering if at some point the data related to hardware equipement could be deleted from our databases or if it must be kept as long as the company exists ?

That guidance will often depend on your local country laws, or if you work for a multinational company, there is more complexity and you want to work with the most conservative definition.

Instead of deleting, I would consider archiving the data for a period of time, maybe after 2-3 years and then leaving the data in archive for a few more years. It will reduce the database costs while also allow you to resurect that data if there is a legal need somewhere in local Tax, Legal, or regulatory needs in the medium term future.
